AGEING NECK TREATMENT
PREVENTION & TREATMENT OF AGEING NECK SKIN
Normal healthy skin has a nice epidermis with a smooth outer layer that acts as a good barrier to intrinsic and extrinsic aging factors. Smooth and firm skin is due to Collagen, which keeps the skin firm, elastin, which supplies skin elasticity, and glycosaminoglycans or GAGs, which keep the skin hydrated are all abundant.
The body produces collagen naturally, it is in abundance when we are young, but unfortunately, the production of collagen starts to decline at about age 25, and continues. It decreases even more in women after menopause. Aging neck skin can also be caused by other factors, such as sun damage, dehydration, lifestyle factors, and even certain medications.
Gradually the skin becomes thinner and more fragile with age. The function of the sweat and oil glands slows down and there is less production of collagen , elastin and less GAG formation.
Because women have a delicate skin on the neck, gravity pulls down loose skin which can contribute to the aged, “turkey wattle” appearance.
Non-surgical skin tightening is generally best suited for patients who have mild to moderate skin laxity.
There are very few serious side effects associated with this procedure, it may not be appropriate for patients who are pregnant, or have certain medical condition.
